 BIRD - Founded in 1977. The Israel-US Bi-National Industrial Research &
Development Foundation (BIRD) shares up to 50% of the cost of joint ventures between
Israeli companies and US counterparts who seek to develop and commercialize innovative
technological products or technologies with significant export potential.
BIRD is funded by an endowment of $100 million contributed by both governments on an
equal basis, leading to direct sales of $5 billion during more than 20 years of activity.
 CIIRDF - Modeled on BIRD and founded in 1995. The Canada-Israel Industrial 
Foundation is funded by equal grants from the Canadian and Israeli governments.
 The Fifth Framework Program of the European Union's Commission on Science, Research &  
Development has a four year operating budget of $15 billion and enables Israeli companies
to enter joint venture agreements with EU counterparts. Israel is the only non-European
country that is a party to the program.
In addition, Israel has cooperation agreements in R&D with the following countries: 
Austria, Belgium, France, Holland, India, Ireland, Jordan, Portugal, Singapore, Spain and the UK.
